Importance of Interdisciplinary Curriculum in Secondary Classrooms

Educators are often unprepared to answer questions regarding the importance of learning certain material in their classroom.  Students deserve to engage in meaningful, relevant activities in the classroom.  Leading students to discover the connections that mathematics has with other fields can help students to recognize the value that learning mathematics has in their lives.  I am interested in learning about what mathematics educators from around the nation are doing in their own classrooms to promote meaningful learning for their students and to show students the value of learning mathematics.  I am especially excited about to hear about interdisciplinary classrooms and the impact that interdisciplinary curriculum has on student learning.  I hope to become more prepared for potentially implementing an integrated mathematics-science course in my future career as a mathematics educator as well as become more aware of the issues that educators currently find important.
