1. Solicit nominations for the Board of Directors by April 1.
2. Solicit nominations for the President Elect in the appropriate years by April 1.
3. Select a slate of candidates for the Board of Directors by June 1. The selection of candidates is-
a. Governed by the NCTM Bylaws which require each candidate to have been a member of NCTM continuously for the past three years, balanced across levels (elementary, middle, high school, and college or university) and geographic regions;
b. Guided by evidence of the candidate demonstrating leadership, vision, and collaboration; commitment to mathematics education; and a wide range of experiences.
4. Select two candidates for President Elect in the appropriate year. The selection of candidates is-
a. Governed by the NCTM Bylaws which require each candidate to have been a member of NCTM continuously for the past five years and have served on the Board of Directors, as a major chair, or in another major leadership role in the Council;
b. Guided by evidence of the candidate demonstrating strong leadership and vision for the Council; commitment to mathematics education; and a wide range of experiences.
5. Notify candidates and their supervisors that they will be placed on the slate of candidates for the Board or President Elect.
6. Monitor all aspects of the voting process including:
a. Approve the ballot;
b. Approve the candidate biographies.
7. Review and evaluate the selection and recruitment process as needed.
8. Review and respond to all requests from the Board or Delegate Assembly.
9. Submit a report to the Board for their summer meeting.
a. Informing them of the slate of candidates for the Board;
b. Informing them of candidates for the President Elect in appropriate years;
c. Requesting advice or permission if needed for policy changes or additional meetings.
