Criteria for Proposal Rating

Perspectives or Theoretical Framework for the Research

Potential Considerations: Are the intellectual underpinnings for the work discussed? Are the theories or ideas that are driving the study clearly articulated? Does the author identify how the questions being investigated contribute to research or practice? To what extent does the research suggest and explore creative and original concepts? (Individual Papers, Research Symposia, Work Sessions, Poster Sessions)

Methods, Techniques, or Modes of Inquiry for the Research

Potential Considerations: Are the research questions clearly identified? Has the methodology been clearly articulated? Is the methodology or mode of inquiry appropriate for the research? Are the methods supported by the perspectives or theoretical framework? Is the sample population identified and adequate? (Individual Papers, Research Symposia, Poster Sessions)

Data Sources or Evidence for the Research

Potential Considerations: Are the sources or evidence drawn on in this study described or discussed? Are the sources adequate and appropriate for the research? Are quantitative and/or qualitative data utilized in appropriate ways to answer the research questions? (Individual Papers, Research Symposia, Poster Sessions)

Results and/or Conclusions

Potential Considerations: Do the results and/or findings address the research questions? Are the conclusions consistent with, or do they flow from the analysis? Are the results/analyses situated within a broader context? Does the analysis of the data support the results reported? (Individual Papers, Research Symposia, Poster Sessions)

Educational or Scientific Importance of the Research

Potential Considerations: Does the work advance the knowledge and understanding within the area of mathematics education research or practice? Does the proposal address key issues in mathematics teaching and learning? (Individual Papers, Research Symposia, Work Sessions, Poster Sessions)

Organization of the Session

Potential Considerations: How well conceived and organized is the proposed session? Does the content of the presentation fit the identified session design? Does the presentation allow adequate time for participants’ engagement? (Research Symposia, Work Sessions)
