Solidifying Best Practice in Number Sense Instruction Across Grade Levels

As a faculty, we have identified a need for targeted professional development (PD) around number sense instruction. We teachers need to identify what best practice looks like at EVERY grade level and then we need to pursue a deeper understanding of how to assess number sense, how to differentiate instruction, and how to maximize our effectiveness as teachers of number sense. Several teachers met as a team to plot out the PD, based on specific feedback from our colleagues. We brought in one of our district's leading math experts to help us plan PD that will 'stick'. As a group, we have decided that our PD needs to incorporate several direct in-service sessions led by a math consultant, in tandem with a book study and series of instructional rounds sessions that will allow us to make our work transparent. This grant will help make our very deliberate vision a reality.
