The Mathematics of Place - visualizing mathematics through mapping technology
Geographic Information Systems help visualize and interpret data in many ways to reveal patterns and make connections. From the creation of maps using layers that consist of points, lines, planes to adding layers of data represented by and with numbers, GIS technology incorporates mathematics and its application in real world problem solving. GIS lends itself to partnering mathematical ideals into relevant and interesting situations in a variety of disciplines. This grants seeks technology equipment, professional development and resources to incorporate GIS & GPS technology into my mathematics classroom.
