This book helps mathematics teachers working in professional learning communities (PLCs) focus their curriculum and vision on the elements of instruction and assessment necessary for student achievement. Practical guidelines take high school mathematics teachers and administrators beyond state or local standards to create the essential conditions to ensure success in mathematics for all students. The book presents ten high-leverage team actions (HLTAs) to assist teams in narrowing their vision for instruction and assessment and increasing student learning while implementing the Common Core State Standards or district and local standards. These HLTAs are steps taken before, during, and after a unit of instruction—to prepare for instruction, to use formative assessment during instruction, and to reflect on the results of student assessment and prepare for the next unit of instruction.
