Latrenda Knighten, a retired Mathematics Curriculum Supervisor in Baton Rouge, LA. Is currently President-Elect (2023 - 2024) for the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM). She will begin her two-year term as President at the close of the NCTM Annual Meeting in September 2024. She has been an educator for more than 30 years during which she has been a classroom teacher and served as an instructional coach for elementary mathematics and science. Knighten is the co-author of two books: Classroom-Ready Rich Math Tasks, Grades K - 1 and Answers to Your Biggest Questions About Teaching Elementary Math, K-5. As a passionate advocate for high-quality mathematics instruction for all students, she is also an active member of many mathematics professional organizations where she has served in leadership roles. Knighten is a past member of the Board of Directors for the NCSM (Math Ed Leaders) and the Benjamin Banneker Association, Inc, and a member of the Mathical Book Prize Selection Committee.
